Dear Parents,

My name is Pam Walker and I am the Guidance Counselor at Maxwell Elementary School. I would like to introduce myself and the guidance program to you.

The first component of our program is classroom guidance. I present lessons to all students in pre-kindergarten through first grade at least four times annually. During this time, I work with the students on conflict resolution skills and responsibility. Other topics typically include Private Part Safety, kindness, and appropriate expressions of feelings, both positive and negative.

I also work with individual students on such topics as divorce, grief, anger management, feelings, fears, etc. The teacher, student, or parent can request assistance from my office.  Social skills groups are held weekly to work with students on learning appropriate ways to interact with others.

Additionally, I am the chairperson of the Response to Intervention Team at Maxwell Elementary School. This group of teachers meets on a regular basis with parents to assist in the design of effective instructional programs suited to a child’s individual needs and requirements.

Issues regarding excused and unexcused absences, excessive early dismissals, or tardies are also addressed by my office. The McDuffie County BOE and the Toombs Judicial Circuit place great emphasis on school attendance as our students can not learn if they are not present to be taught. Please feel free to contact me if you have concerns regarding absences, tardies, and early dismissals.

Please contact me with any and all questions and concerns you might have concerning the guidance program. Should you require specific assistance in dealing with a counseling matter, I will be more than happy to meet with you on an individual basis. You can reach me at 706-986-4820 or .

Thank you,
