Title I
What is Title I?
Title I is a federally funded program designed to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic standards and state academic assessments. The Title I mission is to ensure that each child successfully meets or exceeds Georgia's proficient and advanced levels of student performance and meets or exceeds expectations on local, state, and national assessments.
School districts target Title I funds they receive to their schools with the highest percentages of children from low-income families. These funds may be used for children from preschool aged to high school. Title I is designed to support State and local school reform efforts tied to challenging State academic standards in order to reinforce and enhance efforts to improve teaching and learning for students. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include strategies to support parental involvement. Some of the goals of the Title I Program are to:
- Meet the educational needs of students designated schools using strategies to increase academic achievement
- Promote family engagement by giving parents and family members substantial and meaningful opportunities to participate in the education of their children
- Implement effective programs to close the achievement gaps between high and low performing students

What About MES and Title I?
Maxwell Elementary qualifies as a Title I school as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) based on the percentage of our students on Free or Reduced lunch. We use our funds to support students by employing high-quality instructional staff and using evidence-based programs and practices. We are committed to using effective instructional practices which are consistent across classrooms so every student we serve has an equal opportunity to academically achieve at their highest potential. To meet these goals we:
- Design lessons aligned to the Georgia Standards of Excellence
- Identify the concepts and skills students are to know and understand and be able to do
- Differentiate content, process and/or product to address student needs
- Use evidence-based practices and strategies for instruction and assessment
- Assess students regularly to monitor progress and to make a sound group and individual student instructional decisions
- Track and analyze assessment data to continuously inform school improvement plans to increase student performance
- Communicate about and engage families in the educational processes of MES to build a network of support for all students
- Provide safe learning environments through strong student-staff relationships, clear routines and procedures, taught character education curriculum, emphasized systems of support to include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors (PBIS) and identifying students who need more intensive support physically, emotionally, socially and behaviorally.
Informing Parents of the "Right to Know"
Notice to Parents: Right to Request Professional Qualifications
In compliance with the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act, parents may request information about the professional qualifications of their child's teacher(s) and, if applicable, paraprofessional(s).
Whether the student’s teacher—
- has met State qualification and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction;
- is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which State qualification or licensing criteria have been waived; and,
- is teaching in the field of discipline of the certification of the teacher.
Whether the child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.

We have a wonderful Parent Resource Center- Max's Den- in our library. It is open from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm and later by request. We invite parents to visit during school hours to pick up Title I Information and to check out resources that can help support student learning at home. There are also computers parents can use as needed.
We also host and invite parents to attend several events throughout the year to provide support with understanding the curriculum and how to help at home. We offer parent-teacher conferences a minimum of twice annually but are happy to meet with families at any scheduled time throughout the school year. Parent and Family Engagement
Parents and families are our partners! Family engagement is the number one factor in student academic success.
Parent and Family Engagement is an ongoing process that increases active participation, communication, and collaboration between our families, our school, and our community with the goal of educating the EVERY child to ensure student achievement and success.
The Georgia Department of Education’s Parent Engagement Program ensures that Title I, Part A parental involvement regulations are met with meaningful and strategic actions to build parent capacity as mandated by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA). Schools and districts must ensure that strong strategies are in place to: 1) build capacity to involve parents/stakeholders in an effective partnership with the school; and 2) share and support high student academic achievement.
