All About Me

My name is Tanisha Whitaker and this is my 9th year teaching at Maxwell Elementary. I have 17 years of teaching experience.  Here are a few things about me that I would like to share with you.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always known that I wanted to be a teacher. My mother is a retired teacher that has taught for over 30 years. I always knew that I wanted to follow in her footsteps. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education at Albany State University in the Fall of 2003. I received my Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education in the Fall of 2005. I went on to pursue my Specialist Degree in Elementary Education and graduated in the Summer of 2009. I also received my Gifted Certification in 2005 as well. I have been teaching for sixteen years, eight in Dougherty County (four years teaching 1st Grade and four years teaching 2nd Grade). This is my 9th year teaching here at MES (4 years of Pre-K and 4 years of 1st Grade). I have had the honor of being Teacher of the Year at Lake Park Elementary in Dougherty County in 2008.

I was born and raised in Pensacola, FL. However I did move to Columbus, GA when I was in the 2nd-5th grade. I have two siblings. My sister lives in Montgomery, AL and my brother lives in San Antonio TX. Both of my siblings are married and I have 3 nieces and 3 nephews  between the both of them. I have four additional nieces and nephews through marriage.

I got married on July 14, 2012 to my husband Jarvis Whitaker. He works on the base at Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA. He is finally retired from the military!  I have one son Tristan Elijah Whitaker that is in 2nd Grade this year at TES. He is such a joy and a blessing to the both of us. We currently reside in Augusta, GA.

I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you this year. I am excited to meet and get to know your babies that you are sharing with me!
