FISH Notebook:
Our FISH notebook is the notebook that will be sent home and back to school every day. It is the responsibility of the parent to check this notebook each and every night. It contains important notes, transportation change slips, schedules, monthly newsletter, and student’s daily behavior chart
The front pocket will contain daily notes and school information. Please keep this pocket clean and without any extra papers. The behavior chart shows a period of four weeks. The daily activity schedule will be shown on each day. The behavior chart should be signed by the parent each day! You will also find important papers such as the monthly newsletter containing the skills being taught and to be practiced at home, and a pocket folder containing blank transportation forms. If you fill out a transportation form it must be placed in the front pocket. It is important that the parent also help keep the notebooks clean and organized.
Lunch:
The school offers free lunch for all students. If you choose to pack a lunchbox for your child, please make sure it is items they can easily open. It is extremely difficult to help all children open their items during a short lunch period.
Snacks:
We will have a later lunch this year, so we will offer a time for students to have a snack during midmorning. Students can bring an individual snack each day. No candy!
Transportation Changes:
Transportation change forms will be located in a folder in the FISH notebook. If you need to change your child’s regular transportation for the afternoon, please make sure that a transportation change form is filled out and placed in the front pocket where it can be easily seen. Transportation changes will not be accepted over the phone.
School Times:
Breakfast is served beginning at 7:30. Tardy bell is at 8:00. School dismisses at 3:00.
Ice Cream: Ice cream is $1.00. It is the responsibility of the parent to put the student’s money in the ice money pouch located in the FISH notebook. We will not accept ice cream money that is not located in the notebook. Please DO NOT send more than $5 at a time.
Homework:
It is very important to work with your child at home. Each month there will be a newsletter in the FISH notebook listing the skills that will be worked on in the classroom. I encourage you to help your child with the skills at home as well. Please practice sight words every night as well as read with your child. Check your child’s notebook daily for any practice activities. We will begin checking out library books in January.
Parent Conferences:
We will have several parent conference afternoons throughout the school year. However, if you ever feel you would like to meet to discuss any concerns or if you have any questions, I will always be glad to meet with you. Simply send a note in the front pocket of the notebook or give me a call. Working together is the best way to help your child succeed!
Discipline:
I feel it is very important the students not only respect adults but each other as well. To make this possible, there are several rules that must be followed in order for our day to be productive.
Rules:
- I will listen and follow directions.
- I will use good manners.
- I will keep my body to myself.
- I will follow hallway, bathroom, and lunchroom rules.
- I will use my materials wisely.
Sticks chart:
In the classroom, there is a chart with each child’s number/ name posted on their pocket. Each pocket contains 4 sticks (blue, green, yellow, red). The sticks symbolize the behavior of the student for the day. For each time a rule is broken, the student goes to their pocket and pulls out a colored stick (first blue, then green, etc.) Each day your child’s behavior will be posted on their behavior chart located in their FISH book. Smiley face means they had a great day and not sticks pulled. If there is a colored dot, that means your child pulled a stick and the coordinating number of the behavior will be listed. It is important for you, as the parent, to check this daily and sign.
Rewards:
In the classroom, we use a variety of reward systems. Students will be able to earn rewards individually and as a class. These rewards include going to a prize box, free computer time, or a class celebration!
Thank you for helping to make your child’s Kindergarten year a success!!!!!
